DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free guided tour of Lost in Palm Springs with Sam Creyton\, Curatorial and Engagement Manager from HOTA. \nSaturday July 12 at 3pm \nSam Creyton is the Curatorial and Engagement Manager from Home of the Arts\, Gold Coast. \n\n\nThis interdisciplinary exhibition brings together 14 creative minds – including internationally recognised artists\, photographers and thinkers from America and Australia – who respond to\, capture\, or reimagine the magical qualities of the landscape and the celebrated mid-century modern architecture found in the desert city. \n\n\n\n\nConnections between Palm Springs and Australia are remarkably strong\, particularly when viewed through the lens of the current renaissance of interest in modernist architecture. Place and home\, desert atmospheres\, landscapes (real and imagined)\, and Bauhaus sensibilities inform the works. \n\n\n\n\nThe Australian artists represented in the exhibition are Kate Ballis\, Tom Blachford\, Anna Carey\, Sam Cranstoun\, Paul Davies\, Rosi Griffin\, Vicki Stravrou\, Robyn Sweaney and Gosia Wlodarczak. American artists in the exhibition are Darren Bradley\, Jim Isermann\, Troy Kudlac\, Lance O’Donnell and Kim Stringfellow. \n\n\n\n\nCurated by artist Dr Greer Honeywill\, Lost in Palm Springs is a touring initiative developed by HOTA\, Home of the Arts\, Gold Coast in partnership with Museums & Galleries Queensland. DESCRIPTION:Wimbleʼs Wayzgoose is a celebration of printing and printmaking to commemorate Australian print history and industry pioneer Fredrick Thomas Wimble. The weekend is hosted by the Museum of Printing at the New England Regional Art Museum in Armidale. \n  \nPROGRAM  \n*Please note some changes to the original schedule. \n  \nFRIDAY – 2nd May   \n  \nWORKSHOP: \nTWO-DAY MOKULITO WORKSHOP WITH SAM SOSNOWSKI  9am – 4pm \nThis exciting two-day course with Sam Sosnowski will introduce you to the Mokulito process. Mokulito can be described as “kitchen lithography”. It combines wood block printing with lithography but uses everyday non-toxic and inexpensive materials. \n \n  \n  \n______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \n  \nSATURDAY – 3rd May \n  \nWORKSHOPS: \nTWO-DAY MOKULITO WITH SAM SOSNOWSKI\, CONTINUES  9am – 4pm \n  \nCHROMATIC WOOD TYPE PRINTING WITH WAYNE THOMPSON  10am – 1pm \nJoin Wayne Thompson for a half-day introductory workshop to chromatic printing; the process of printing multiple colours in wood type. This project delves into the rich history of F T Wimble & Co.\, a pivotal entity in the printing history of Australia and New Zealand\, known for producing the first printing ink in the Southern Hemisphere in 1868. \nHarvey and Menesis’ research focuses on recreating historic ink formulas using natural pigments sourced from Australia’s raw materials\, celebrating the country’s cultural heritage. They will share their progress\, including initial findings\, experimentation results\, and future plans. DESCRIPTION:Join us at NERAM for an in conversation between exhibiting artist Helen Eager and NERAM Director Rachael Parsons as they discuss Eager’s survey exhibition Inner/Space. \n  \nHelen Eager has sustained a solo exhibition program for over three decades with her drawings\, paintings and prints. Over the years\, the shift from domestic interiors to pure abstraction has been a consistent evolution\, her love of colour and light a constant thread. \nHelen Eager studied at the South Australian School of Art in the 1970s. A Masters degree at COFA in the late eighties focused on large-scale works on paper\, which took her drawing to a new level. A residency at the Greene St Studio in New York in 1988 was pivotal as Eager’s work evolved towards pure abstraction. \nOver the past decade\, Eager has explored compositions using chains of triangles on fields of white. In 2012\, Eager was commissioned to create a wall painting for the Circular Quay entrance of the new Museum of Contemporary Art building. Eager’s work is included in all of Australia’s major public and private collections\, including the National Gallery of Australia\, Art Gallery of New South Wales\, Art Gallery of South Australia and National Gallery of Victoria. DESCRIPTION:Occupation: Structures of the Berlin Brigade\nA Visual Anthropology Research Project on the Built Environment \nA politically and culturally conscious approach to urban preservation and development considers public memory and space as a cultural product. This comprehensive visual  anthropology addresses how individuals relate to heritage sites over time and political change to offers insight for urban development and heritage management projects. \nThis photographic project deals with a set of buildings in the former American Sector of West Berlin. These political structures were used or built by the US occupational military following WWII\, the Cold War\, German reunification\, and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. (1945 – 1994). The sites share a unique historical context and geographic proximity\, lending themselves to place-making research. \nAs the 30th anniversary of the occupational withdrawal of foreign military from Berlin is commemorated in 2024\, I am revisiting this project produced as a masters research at the Freie\nUniversität Berlin. Gathering the experiences\, ideals\, and powers implicated at these sites across evolving eras\, circumstance and purpose expand our perception of what buildings have meant and continue to mean individually and collectively. \n  \nMike Terry is a photographer and visual anthropologist based in the New England Region. \nHe earned a B.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Utah in 2010 and was awarded A Fine Art\, Music\, Architecture and Dance Graduate scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) in 2011 through which he earned a Masters in visual and media anthropology at the Freie Universität Berlin. \nMike has worked as a photographer and filmmaker for commercial and editorial clients internationally. \nSince 2014 he has lectured at the Freie University Berlin and the  Hochschule für Medien\, Kommunikation und Wirtschaft in Berlin where He developed the masters course ‘Space & Place’. From 2017-18 he taught reportage and portrait photography at the F16 Schule für Fotografie in Berlin. \nBefore relocating to Australia in 2020\, he worked as a visual & online producer for the studio of filmmaker Yulia Mahr and the classical composer Max Richter in the United kingdom. Currently\, in addition to working as a freelance photographer and filmmaker he is Communications Leader for the School of Environment and Rural Science’s International Capacity Building Group at the University of New England. \n\n \nImage: Teufelsberg\, Berlin-Grunewald. DESCRIPTION:For the 2024 FT Wimble Lecture on Printmaking\, join Jackie Dunn\, Senior curator of exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and co-curator of their current Alphonse Mucha: Spirit of Art Nouveau exhibition\, to explore the life and work of one of art’s great stylistic innovators\, Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939). Through his lithographic posters and illustrations\, Mucha created some of the most instantly recognisable and best-loved works in modern European art: the seductive\, sinuous compositions that formed a new language and defined the look of late 19th-century Paris. But Mucha was also a mystic philosopher and activist for the liberation of his homeland\, today’s Czech Republic. Together we’ll take a journey through his rich career to uncover the artist behind the famous images. \nYour ticket includes a welcome glass of sparkling wine. \nJackie Dunn is Senior curator of exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. She is co-curator of the 2024 Alphonse Mucha: Spirit of Art Nouveau exhibition. Other major exhibitions she has curated for the Art Gallery include\, in 2023\, Kandinsky\, from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum\, New York; Desmond Lazaro’s Point and Line to Plane\, and Georgiana Houghton: Invisible Friends. In 2021 she co-curated Matisse: Life & Spirit\, Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou\, Paris\, as well as the associated gallery-wide contemporary art responses\, Matisse Alive. That year she was also facilitating curator of Franklin Sirmans’ international video exhibition\, Family: Visions of a Shared Humanity.
