SUMMARY:Outside our doors | Ascent GROUP exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Ascent Group proudly presents Outside Our Studio Doors\, a joyful and vibrant exhibition created by participants who work from the Packsaddle Studio at NERAM three days a week. \n\n\nGuided by artist facilitator Lucy McCann\, the group explored their local surroundings for inspiration—collecting materials\, observing nature\, and taking photographs. Through a creative journey of journal work\, frottage\, printing\, pattern-making and collage\, they’ve brought together a collection that captures both the process and the delight of artistic discovery. \n\n\nThis exhibition is a celebration of creativity\, connection\, and the joy found just outside the studio doors. \n\n\nAscent has been supporting people with disability across the New England region for over 60 years\, offering choice\, creating opportunity\, and developing lifelong skills in an inclusive community.

SUMMARY:Halfway Home: Bridie McKelvey
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition of delightful and whimsical assemblages and dioramas representing a small escape from life’s hectic and sometimes harsh realities. Bridie McKelvey’s work takes seemingly mundane objects transforming them into intricate reimagined landscapes. Favoured materials include paper\, tins\, toys\, beads\, threads\, old books\, paper\, found objects\, wire and pressed flowers\, that are applied with repetition throughout her work – continually toying with colour\, balance and texture\, and delivering on an objective that is purely decorative and designed to delight. \n  \nNow based in the Northern Rivers\, Bridie McKelvey grew up and attended high school in Armidale. McKelvey has studied visual arts and graphic design and has participated in several group exhibitions in NSW. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nCredit: Bridie McKelvey\, Owl and flowers\, n.d.\, mixed media assemblage. SUMMARY:Packsaddle Lecture: Julian Bickersteth AO\, CEO of International Conservation Services
DESCRIPTION:Join us prior to the opening of The Landscape of Giving: Celebrating 10 years of the Adopt an Artwork program at NERAM in the Mazda Gallery to hear from Julian Bickersteth AO\, CEO of International Conservation Services. Julian will discuss his global experience in conservation\, with highlights from the past 10 years of NERAM’s Adopt An Artwork Program\, and celebrate the generous contributions to this incredible project which supports the preservation of our beautiful collection. \nJulian is a key founding member of ICS and has served as a driving force behind the company since its inception in 1991. International Conservation Services was first conceived to provide materials conservation to the substantial collections held outside of public collecting institutions – ensuring material was restored and conserved to museum standards. Under his guidance it has become the premier company for the conservation of art and heritage in the country serving both private and state institutions as well as private clients. \nFrom his early days as a material conservator at the Powerhouse Museum\, Sydney\, Julian has always had a strong affiliation with conservation and has worked to establish a company that is conversant in the broader aspects of conservation and how it relates to allied disciplines. \nJulian’s key experience revolves around working on projects where there is a conservation component of a broader heritage issue. His expertise is deep and wide-ranging\, extending from a very broad knowledge of material conservation issues to collection management\, architectural conservation and heritage policy creation. \n\n\nThe Packsaddle Lecture Series invites guest speakers to expound on aspects of Australian and international artistic practices and history\, providing the community with an opportunity to explore themes and ideas related to some of the museum’s key collection areas. \n  \n \nSupported by Packsaddle \n

SUMMARY:Tufting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will create their own textile work to take home using the punch needle tufting technique. Exhibiting artist Natalya Hughes will lead participants through some of the techniques and processes she has employed to create custom textile works in The Interior. Participants will design their own motif to tuft\, extracting imagery from their experiences\, in conversation with the artist. \nThe Interior invites audiences into an exaggerated consultation room playfully furnished for psychoanalysis. A key feature of this installation is 7 rugs\, hand made by the artist with a tufting gun. Consistent with the content of the overall installation\, the symbols and motifs embedded in these objects are drawn from Sigmund Freud’s office and case studies. The textile design developed in this workshop by participants will be a motif drawn from personal experience. Punch needling follows the same technique as the mechanised process of using a tufting gun and is an inexpensive and accessible process to learn. \nThe workshop includes all materials\, including a tufting kit that participants can take home. \nVENUE | NERAM\, Mazda Gallery \nTIME | 10.00am – 12.00pm \nCOST | General price $33.00\, Friends of NERAM/Culture Club Price $30.00 \nMaximum 12 participants \n\n \nImage: Punch Needle Workshop with Natalya Hughes.
